UK Science & Innovation Network and the British Council present

Science & Innovation Dialogues

“Future Pandemic Preparedness: No Time to Wait on AMR”

You are cordially invited to attend the third in a series of online science and innovation dialogues dedicated to highlighting UK science, research & innovation and stimulating international and UK-EU science and research collaboration.

In the third scientific dialogue, we will focus on international science collaboration in the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). In the first one we tackled the issue of international collaboration on vaccine development while the second one focused on data collection & communication.

The science dialogue with the keynote speaker, Professor Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance, will take place on Tuesday, 16 March 2021, starting at 1600 GMT/1700 CET/1800 EET/1900 TRT via Teams platform.

In her role as UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance, Dame Sally advocates on AMR and represents the UK government about AMR internationally. In her keynote address, Dame Sally will look at the latest research, progress and challenges on AMR and what more needs to be done to enable policy interventions to prepare for this ‘silent’ pandemic. With Covid-19 pandemic, AMR has been exacerbated and changed the way that research and respond to AMR is being done internationally.

Joining her for a debate will be academics and researchers from across Europe:

  • Prof Bojana Beović, University of Ljubljana; President of the Medical Chamber of Slovenia
  • Dr Agata Starosta, Principal Investigator, Head of Laboratory of Gene Expression, Department of Molecular Biology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland)
  • Assoc Prof Serap Suzuk Yildiz, Clinical Microbiologist, PhD, National AMR References Lab, Department of Microbiology References Lab and Biological Product, Ministry of Health – Turkey; Executive Board Member of Turkish Society of Microbiology
  • Dr Tomáš Szemes, Department of Molecular Biology, Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia)
  • Prof Tanel Tenson, Head of the Estonian Centre of Excellence in Molecular Cell Engineering; professor in the technology of antimicrobial compounds, University of Tartu (Estonia)
